The Real Cost of Delaying Emergency Plumbing Repairs
Life has a habit of throwing up little issues. Just when you thought everything in your world was fine, not even a small cloud in the sky, there's a little hiccup. A bead of water forming on that white thing under the sink that you can't remember the name of.
You're not a plumber, so why would you know? And even if you did, you're not going to attempt to fix it because that can get messy. One thing leads to another, and the problem can escalate.
If you are particularly handy and have done this sort of thing before, then good for you: sort it out yourself. But the real answer is to call a 24/7 plumber who knows what they're doing. To them, this is a five-minute job they won't charge much for. It can be a pleasure, in fact.
A good plumber enjoys helping customers, and fixing a little issue such as this before it causes potentially serious problems can be a great feeling. Part of that can be because a good tradesperson knows this kind of quick intervention can prevent all sorts of problems.
What Problems Can Water Leaks Cause?
The trouble with water is that it gets everywhere and can cause damage in a quiet, sneaky way. That drip under the sink will first get into the wood-based shelf where you keep the cleaning products. It can make all your spare scrubbing sponges soggy and smelly, but it's also rotting the wood they're sitting on.
From there it can seep into the floor. If it runs out the front, at least you'll be able to see it, mop it up and make the phone call, but if it goes to the back or sides it can be doing its unpleasant stuff for a while before you even notice, by which time it has damaged flooring and even got into the wall.
Even more alarmingly, houses have electric cables running where you can't normally see them, and you don't want water on the loose anywhere near your wiring or appliances. That presents the danger of electrocution, and even if that doesn't happen, it can damage your electrical items.
So, to get back to the overall subject, the question of ‘how much are plumbing repairs?' misses the point. It's all the other repairs and maybe replacing expensive devices that can cost serious money. It can all be prevented by looking up emergency plumbers and getting someone on the case early on.
There are urgent plumbing repairs and there is the after-hours plumbing service, which doesn't sound so dramatic. The point is, there doesn't have to danger involved for your issue to merit getting looked at and fixed outside normal working hours.
If you've got more than a bead of water under the sink – say, a pipe leak caused by a faulty joint or a physical mishap when moving the washing machine or whatever, you need to deal with it quickly, and the cost of an emergency plumbing repair is much less than buying a new machine or having the floor retiled.
Is a Leaking Tap an Emergency Repair?
Let's look at this rationally. You're not going to the emergency department of a hospital and having your twisted ankle compared with somebody else's heart attack. The health world's concept of triage, where a nurse will assess who needs to be treated first, does not apply to household repairs.
If you have an issue that worries you because you think it might escalate, pick up the phone and get yourself some expert help.
There will be a standard emergency call-out charge, so the plumber is not out of pocket. If they sort it out quickly and you wonder what you were worried about in the first place, that's better than surveying a scene of water damage in the morning and wishing you had done something about it.
What is the Cost of Emergency Plumbing Repair?
So, here is the big question, and it's one of those to which there is no simple answer. You will pay the call-out charge plus the parts and labour involved in the repair but it's worth it so you don't have to worry about water damage in your precious property.
There is no such thing as the average cost of emergency plumbing repair, it all depends on what exactly the issue is. It could be surprisingly inexpensive, or it might not be. But necessary things must be done. That's what the word means after all.
