When Septic Tank Installation Services in Dubbo are Needed
People who live in towns and cities expect purified water to be available when they turn on their tap and for their waste water and sewage to be disposed of and treated for them. For those in rural areas, however, that's not the case. Water is often obtained from a well and, since connection to a main sewer system is not possible, an off-mains disposal system is necessary.
Ensuring a Successful Septic Tank Installation
The most common type of off-mains disposal is by a residential septic tank installation. Waste water and sewage from a property flow into the tank where solid content is settled out in two successive chambers. The remaining liquid then flows out into a drainage field where it is absorbed into the soil. Sludge will build up in the tank and has to be periodically removed by vacuum truck for disposal.
Replacing an existing system or installing a new one is a process that does not come cheap. As a result, there may be a temptation to do it yourself in order to save money on your onsite wastewater system installation.
Installing a septic tank system is a complex process that requires skill and knowledge. It starts with septic system design and permits need to be obtained in order to comply with regulations. Proper installation is also essential and so using a professional septic tank installer is highly recommended. A failure to install the system correctly can have expensive consequences and be a threat to your health.

Steps to Install a Septic Tank Correctly
We have installed many septic tank systems and are fully familiar with the process. Although we are flexible in our approach to any job, septic tank installation has a set number of stages and these are always followed to ensure a successful outcome:
- Obtain the necessary permits for the job.
- Assess the site to determine the most suitable location for the system. This assessment will include a soil absorption and drainage assessment, and evaluation of the type of soil and the level of the water table. We will also determine the needs of your property and the best type of system for you, and will take full account of local regulations.
- Design the system and its layout, within the confines of your property. The tank will be sited as far away from your home as is practical, will ideally be downwind and will be positioned to provide easy access for vehicles that remove the sludge.
The site will also be chosen to prevent excessive ground pressure, such as on a sloping site, or loads placed on it by vehicle traffic. Regulations will always be followed, including minimum distances, and an inspection chamber upstream of the treatment plant will be built into the design. - Excavate the area for the septic tank and the drainage field in line with the design. This will take account of the required fall for drainage, which is particularly important for a gravity system. Typical falls are one in sixty or seventy from the house to the septic tank and then a maximum of one in two hundred to the drainage field.
- Prepare a stable base, usually a concrete one, on which the tank will be placed. This needs to be level and sufficiently strong to support the tank and its contents.
- Once the base is set, lower the tank onto it, ensuring it is perfectly level, that there is no damage and that the inlet and outlet orientations are correct.
- Connect the tank to the property's waste outlet system.
- Dig trenches for the drainage field pipes, making sure the slope and spacing are correct.
- Install the perforated pipes into the trenches, connecting them to the septic tank so they distribute effluent into the soil surrounding the trenches.
- Fit an access cover to the septic tank for the purposes of inspection and maintenance.
- Backfill the tank excavation with concrete, gravel or sand and backfill the trenches with gravel and soil. The actual material for backfill may depend on the amount and type of traffic expected on the site.
- Restore the site to its previous state or whatever is required by the property owner.
- Arrange for the system to be inspected and tested to confirm it works correctly and that it complies with regulations.
Professional Help for a Successful Septic System Installation
The installation of a septic tank system is a complex process that will involve a lot of work, generally one to two weeks for a professional company but much longer for someone without the required experience, and has to comply fully with regulations. It is not something that an amateur has the time or the skill to tackle but is a challenge we are well used to.
The cost of installing a septic tank system will depend on a number of factors. These include the size of the required system, its type, the complexity of the process and the accessibility of the site. Rest assured, however, that we will provide a system that is not only of the highest quality but is also competitively priced so you will have a cost-effective system for many years to come.
Trying to do the job on the cheap can leave you with a system that does not work properly so you will eventually need the faults to be rectified or the whole system replaced. You are also putting the health of your family at risk and may face legal consequences for non-compliance with regulations.
